Stay Warm This Winter: Our Ultimate Guide to Hot Beverages

With winter settling in, we are all in the mood for cozy nights by the fire with a mug of something hot and delicious. We have you covered with this ultimate guide to hot beverages.

Easy Chai Tea

Make this coffee shop-quality milk-infused tea with just a few simple ingredients, such as whole milk, black tea, and spices you already have in your cabinets.

You will need:

  • Cardamom seeds, 8
  • Cloves, 8
  • Black peppercorns, 4
  • Cinnamon sticks, 2
  • 1, 1-inch piece sliced fresh ginger
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Bags black tea, 4
  • 8 tsp sugar to taste

Instructions:

  1. Put the cardamom, peppercorns, and cloves in a resealable plastic bag; crush with a skillet.
  2. Add the crushed spices to a medium saucepan with the cinnamon sticks, milk, ginger, and two cups of water.
  3. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  4. Add the tea bags and cover; steep for 10 minutes.
  5. Strain into cups, adding two teaspoons of sugar to each one.

Creamy Caramel Latté

Handle the drop in temperatures with ease with this perfectly-crafted barista-style coffee drink.

You will need:

  • 2 oz., freshly-brewed espresso coffee
  • 6 oz. 2% milk
  • 1/2 oz. caramel syrup

Instructions:

  1. If you don’t have a frothing tool, fill a mason jar with milk, screw on the lid, and shake for one minute to create a foamy milk.
  2. Take off the lid and set aside. Heat the jar of milk, uncovered, in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
  3. Pour the milk over the freshly-brewed espresso, scooping the extra frothy foam over the top.
  4. Drizzle some caramel syrup on top, adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder.

Warm Mulled Cider

Simply simmer some apple cider with mulling spices, ginger and orange zest for a winter drink that will warm you from the inside out.

You will need:

  • 1 orange
  • ½ gallon apple cider
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 5 allspice berries
  • 6 cloves
  • Pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1 1½-inch piece of thinly sliced ginger
  • 8 cinnamon sticks

Instructions:

  1. Peel the zest from the orange in long strips using a vegetable peeler.
  2. Simmer cider, honey, allspice, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and orange zest in a medium pot, but do not boil.
  3. Heat uncovered for a half hour.
  4. Ladle into mugs or glasses and garnish with cinnamon sticks.

Sweet-And-Spicy Mulled Wine

Pair this boozy drink with a crackling fire and snowy landscapes. If you want to cut out the alcohol component, substitute with non-alcoholic wine.

You will need:

  • 2 bottles dry red wine
  • ½ cup black peppercorns
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 4 orange peel strips
  • 1 piece peeled and sliced fresh ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole star anise
  • Orange slices

Instructions:

  1. Stir the wine, peppercorns, sugar, ginger, orange peel, cinnamon stick, and anise in a large pan.
  2. Bring to a simmer.
  3. Cover and let sit for 30 minutes.
  4. Strain and discard the solids.
  5. Pour into eight glasses and garnish with cinnamon sticks and orange slices.
