Favorite Fall Beverages That Are NOT Pumpkin Spice!

Many people equate fall with pumpkin spice - everything from coffee and donuts to candles and cereal. Who doesn’t enjoy the occasional pumpkin spice latte on a cool fall morning? But you may want a break and consume a beverage that has nothing to do with pumpkin spice. That said, you still want a drink that signals autumn’s arrival, so here are beverages that are NOT pumpkin spice!

Hot Apple Cider

Season this autumn classic with cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange, lemon, and allspice berries for a cozy drink.

What you will need:

  • 6 cups of apple cider
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole allspice berries
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 orange peel, cut in strips
  • 1 lemon peel, cut in strips

What to do:

  • Pour the maple syrup and apple cider into a large saucepan.
  • Place cinnamon sticks, berries, cloves, orange peel, and lemon peel in the middle of a piece of cheesecloth; fold up the sides and tie it with string.
  • Place the bundle into the cider mixture.
  • Cook the cider over moderate heat until hot but not boiling (five to 10 minutes).
  • Take cider off heat and throw away the spice bundle.
  • Ladle cider into mugs and add a cinnamon stick.
  • Serve.

Hot Cranberry Tea

This fruity cranberry tea makes for a delicious fall drink that is sure to keep you warm and toasty.

What you will need:

  • 3 ½ quarts of water
  • 1 package cranberries
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 lemons, juiced
  • 2 oranges, juiced
  • 12 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

What to do:

Combine water and cranberries in a large pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for half hour. Add sugar, orange and lemon juice, cloves, and cinnamon sticks. Cover the mixture and steep for about an hour.

Chocolate Chai

This spicy cinnamon-flavored chocolate chai gives you an alternative to pumpkin spice, as you sip it by the fire.

What you will need:

  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 black tea bag
  • 3 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Sweetened whipped cream

What to do:

  • In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil. Then add tea bag and cover.
  • Remove from heat and let stand for five minutes.
  • Remove tea bag, then stir in the sugar and cocoa.
  • Return mixture to the stove over medium heat and bring to a boil.
  • Mix in milk, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon. Heat but don’t boil.
  • Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream.
  • Garnish with cinnamon sticks.
